The Bound of a Promise: A Billionaire's Secret Oath

Part 1

The ballroom glittered under crystal chandeliers.

Marble floors. Gold-trimmed tables. Men in tailored suits. Women in silk gowns that cost more than most families earned in a year.

This was the annual Riverside Charity Gala.

A place where the city's wealthiest gathered to write checks, shake hands, and be seen.

At the center of the room stood a tall man in his sixties. Silver hair combed back. A charcoal suit that fit like it was sewn onto him.

Richard Caldwell.

Billionaire. Real estate magnate. Owner of half the skyline.

On his wrist, a watch caught the light. Platinum. Rare. The kind collectors whispered about in private auctions.

He was mid-conversation with a senator when something moved at the edge of his vision.

A boy.

Maybe twelve years old. Thin frame. Worn jacket two sizes too big. Sneakers with peeling soles.

He stood near the dessert table, staring.

Not at the food.

At the watch.

Guests began to notice. A woman in diamonds leaned toward her husband. Whispered something. He smirked.

Security shifted position near the entrance.

The boy took a step forward.

Then another.

Caldwell turned. Saw him approaching.

The room quieted.

Not silent. But the kind of hush that spreads when something doesn't belong.

The boy stopped three feet away.

His eyes locked on the watch.

Caldwell studied him. Waiting.

"Sir," the boy said quietly. "That watch."

A few guests exchanged glances. One man chuckled under his breath.

Caldwell tilted his wrist slightly. "You like it?"

The boy nodded. His hand lifted. Hesitant. Fingers trembling just slightly.
