The scream tore through the warm, heavy air of the golden sunset terrace, instantly slicing through the low murmur of high-society chatter. Every head snapped toward the edge of the patio.

“YOUR DAUGHTER CAN SEE!”

The scream tore through the warm, heavy air of the golden sunset terrace, instantly slicing through the low murmur of high-society chatter. Every head snapped toward the edge of the patio.

There stood a ragged boy, breathless and caked in dirt, his chest heaving. With a heavy, metallic CLANK, he dropped a stained canvas sack onto the pristine marble floor, right beside the most luxurious table on the terrace.

Conversations died instantly. The ambient clink of silverware vanished, replaced by a suffocating stillness. A crystal wine glass trembled violently in a nearby guest’s hand, a drop of crimson spilling onto the white tablecloth.

At the center table, the young girl wearing oversized, pitch-black sunglasses slowly turned her head. Her movement wasn't the vague, drifting gesture of the blind; it was sharp, deliberate, and tracking. She looked directly at the boy. Too precise. Too aware.

Her father’s posture stiffened. He set his fork down with a slow, deliberate motion, though his voice dropped to a register that was controlled but audibly cracking. “…What did you just say?”

The boy took two aggressive steps forward, his eyes burning with a mixture of terror and righteous fury. He reached into the sack. “She’s been poisoning her. For years.”

The crowd gasped. All eyes whipped to the stepmother, whose porcelain elegance collapsed in a single, devastating second. The carefully curated composure she wore like armor evaporated; the color drained from her face, leaving her a ghostly, petrified pale.

“That’s an absolute lie—he’s a vagrant, security get him out of here!” she shrieked, her voice skyrocketing an octave.

But it was too late. The girl’s trembling whisper cut through the mother's panic, small but echoing perfectly in the dead silence. “Mommy gives it to me… every night before bed.”

Everything froze. The father lunged forward, snatching a small, unlabelled glass vial from the boy’s outstretched hand. It contained nothing but a thick, clear liquid. The moment the father’s eyes locked onto the bottle, his fingers began to shake violently. The wealth and authority he usually radiated stripped away, leaving him raw.
