Chapter 1

He Found His Pregnant Wife Pushing a Housekeeping Cart Through a Luxury Hotel—But the Chemical Burns on Her Hands Were the Strangest Detail of All

The woman Julian had spent eight months searching for was standing beneath the crystal chandeliers of the Grand Alcazar Hotel—pregnant, trembling, and dressed in an oversized housekeeping uniform, with both raw hands gripping a brass cart as wealthy guests turned their phones toward them.

He stopped breathing.

Beside him, Camila’s stiletto heels clicked sharply across the marble as she stepped backward, tugging at his tuxedo jacket and whispering that people were taking photographs—that the press would tear apart the polished evening, the merger, and everything waiting beyond those gilded doors.

“Let them,” Julian said.

He pulled away.

Elena kept her gaze lowered, her swollen belly pressing against the faded fabric while bottles of cleaning chemicals rattled softly on the cart. Julian moved closer and asked her to look at him, trying to understand how the wife who had vanished without warning had ended up cleaning rooms in the same world of luxury they had once occupied together.

“Sir, there are rooms waiting,” she murmured. “Please excuse me.”

The cart squealed across the marble.
