Chapter 1
I had my hospital bag ready on the morning of my due date — but my husband rolled his suitcase right past it and told me I was on my own.
His parents were outside, waiting for him.
I wish I could say I misunderstood him. I wish I could say he was joking, or that there had been some small detail I had missed.
There wasn’t.
He had a suitcase. I had a hospital bag.
He was leaving.
