Chapter 2
"Call an Uber if labor starts."
For a second, I just stared at him. It was hard to connect the words to the person standing in front of me.
This was my husband.
The man I was supposed to call when things got scary.
The man who was supposed to be beside me when our baby arrived.
Instead, he was standing near the door with a suitcase in his hand, acting like the day had nothing to do with him.
My hospital bag was there, packed and waiting.
Everything in it had been prepared for one reason: I was due to have a baby.
